christmas knit
christmas is coming soon and i like making things for people, rather than buying them. yes, it probably cost about the same if not more buying all the materials, and not to mention the time it takes. but none the less, i have been attempting to make beer kosies for the last 2 years, maybe one day it will actually happen. if you happen to do this project, please send me pics, so i may post them.
here is another one that i like:

bright idea?
got this great pendant light from lowes for my kitchen and hallway for $18 a piece i think the bronze will help me tie everything in...whatever you call country/nautical.
doggie bag
i have tons a stuff for the dog and the cat, and i put all the misc. stuff into one giant reusable grocery bag, that's not as pretty as the one you can make below from martha stewart living magazine in her october issue.
Step 1:
Photocopy picture, enlarging so that dog is about two-thirds the height of the bag; cut out along dog's outline.
Step 2:
Lay photo cutout, face up, on front of fabric, and trace with fabric pen. Cut out. Flip fabric silhouette.
Step 3:
Cut out. Flip fabric silhouette. Apply glue to dog's head. Position silhouette, glue side down, on bag; press to adhere. Apply glue to the rest of the back of the silhouette in sections, pressing and smoothing out as you work.
womp, womp
remember roseanne the tv show? well urban does, see below their inspiration for this overpriced throw, that they have marked down. i love the feel of handmade items, but not this one.

eat lunch with me?
try this project for an indoor picnic in winter, or just surprise someone that you love like.
1. An old briefcase or any kind of case really, preferably one that’s molded plastic so you don’t have to worry about lining it for watering the grass
2. piece of turf cut to size
3. spray adhesive
4. thin ice pack
5. wild life scene printed out to size, or you could also find a little painting that fits
6. cutlery (either standard stainless, fancy silver, or something biodegradable like these WüN guys by Aspenware)
7. a napkin
8. a traditional picnic style plate for nostalgia’s sake and some yummy food bits

How to do:
1. Once you’ve found a case you want to use (I recommend finding one WITH a handle. I didn’t, and it was kind of a pain to work out), get the dimensions of the inside bottom where the grass will go.
2. Call a local supplier of turf and see if they will sell you just that tiny amount. I ended up paying $3 for mine which I think is a pretty good deal.
3. Then set the turf outside on a plastic bag and give it a drink of water. You also might want to run your fingers through it to get the blades standing up again after being flattened by the roll.
4. Next, measure the inside of the case’s lid to get the dimensions for the piece of bristol board or foam core you”ll need to mount your nature scene on. My studio assistant (aka my mom) cut this one and did such a good job that it was a perfect press fit into the lid. That’s ideal because then you don’t have to mess around with trying to make it stay another way. Thanks Mom!
5. Use your spray adhesive to mount your nature scene onto the board.
6. Now you’re ready to green up that case. Take your turf and place it in the bottom space. Voila, instant outdoors.
7. When the time has come to pack your lunch up, take the ice sheet out of the freezer and slide it either behind the pockets (as pictured below) or into the largest pocket, if it will fit. This ice, combined with the cooling / insulating powers of the grass, should keep your lunch fresh. Friday, September 4, 2009

warm and cozy
i have always wanted a fireplace, but living in apartments in major cities doesn't happen unless you pay tons of money for your apartment. this year, i shall finally have one! electric fireplaces are easy, cheap, come in all shapes and sizes, and best of all, heat your house for about 17 cents an hour.
this one below is 16" wide and just little over 19" tall, just perfect enough for my small space.

cookie cutter
you have a piece of ikea and so does everyone of your neighbors within your 100 miles radius. use this website to change your piece up a bit, by laminating over your piece.
certainly wood has every type, shape, color, tree wood veneer you could every want. and its only about $1-? a square foot. so not bad, and they take any size order (however, you might have to buy in their sheets, which can be up 125" long). below this piece is $2.50sq ft and it comes in 24"-36"
